3D mammography screening
It is unlikely BreastScreen will introduce routine 3D mammography screening in the short term based on the current evidence. However, a 3D mammogram may be recommended in cases where women have dense breast tissue or a family history of breast cancer.
For older women, there may not be additional benefits of 3D mammography over 2D. All women should consider the balance of potential benefits (early detection) and potential harms (overdiagnosis, overtreatment and anxiety) before deciding on a 3D versus a 2D screening mammogram.
